Nordictrack 990 vs Proform 1000 Treadmill – Which is Best For You?
Trying to compare the Nordictrack 990 vs Proform 1000 treadmills?

These are both popular treadmill models with several benefits like longer 60 inch running belts and strong 3.0 HP motors.
They both also have 0 – 12% incline and console fans to keep you cool. Plus they both come iFit LIVE compatible – so you can add unlimited new workout programs, run all over the world and track your stats online.

Another benefit? They both come in just under $1000, making them attractive from a price standpoint as well. You can find the Nordictrack C990 for $999 plus Free Shipping here. And can find the new Proform 1000 treadmill for $999 plus Free Shipping here.
With so many of the same features, you may be wondering – What’s the Difference? And which is the best choice for you?
Here’s a review of the key differences to help you decide between them.
Nordictrack 990 vs Proform 1000 – Console
The console is really where you see the biggest difference between these two treadmills. The Proform Pro 1000 treadmill has a dual-color, backlit console that is easy to ready with a scrolling message board, seen here:

However the Nordictrack C990 Treadmill goes one better with a multi-color, touch screen console complete with web browser – seen below:

So you can surf the net, read emails or watch YouTube videos from your console. Even if you don’t use the web browser, you can still watch your stats in full color – unlike the Proform 1000 which is only dual color and not a touch-screen. You don’t get a built-in web browser on the Proform 1000 console.
This is a game changed for a lot of people. The full color touch screen on the Nordictrack C990 can really add a lot more enjoyment to your workouts.
Nordictrack 990 vs Proform 1000 – Cushioning
The Nordictrack 990 treadmill gives you something you don’t get with the Proform Pro 1000 treadmill – adjustable cushioning.
So if you want more protection for your joints you can turn the cushioning up or if you want a more road-like feel, you can turn the cushioning down.
Nordictrack 990 vs Proform Pro 1000 – Footprint
While these treadmills are similar in size, if you really want to narrow it down to exact sizes the footprint on the Proform Pro 1000 treadmill is 59.25″L x 36.63 ” W.

The footprint on the Nordictrack C990 treadmill is 78.3″ L x 35.75″ W. So technically the Nordictrack 990 is a bit longer than the Pro 1000 treadmill. This isn’t a huge difference – just something to consider if space is limited in your workout area.
Nordictrack C990 vs Proform 1000 – Rollers
While most people don’t think about the roller size it can actually be important to the life of your treadmill. Larger rollers help reduce friction, wear and tear. Basically they help your treadmill to last longer. You’ll also notice less noise and better grip with larger rollers.

The Proform 1000 treadmill has 1.9 inch rollers – which isn’t a bad size, especially on a starter treadmill. However the Nordictrak C990 treadmill outdoes it coming in with larger 2.5 inch rollers.
Nordictrack 990 vs Proform 1000 – Workouts
The Nordictrack 990 also outdoes the Proform 1000 with slightly more built-in workouts: 32 vs 22. Of course, if you’re going to get iFit LIVE (which gives you unlimited new workouts to download), this may not be as much of an issue.

Bottom Line?
Both the Nordictrack 990 and the Proform Pro 1000 models are solid, stable treadmills coming in for a great price. However the Nordictrack C990 outshines the Proform 1000 in a few key areas like console, cushioning options, workouts and roller size.
The Proform Pro 1000 does take up less space and if you’re more partial to the Proform name you may want to go with that one instead. However overall the Nordictrack C990 is the better value as of this writing.
